Interferential

Used as a treatment for the symptomatic relief and management of chronic and post-traumatic acute pain. It is also indicated as a supplemental treatment in the management of post-surgical pain where it not only reduces the sensation of pain; it acts to accelerate the inflammatory or healing process. Interferential devices differ from TENS in that they stimulate the deeper tissues over a broader region.

Galvanic

Galvanic stimulation is most useful in acute injuries associated with major tissue trauma with bleeding or swelling. In contrast to the alternating currents of the TENS and Interferential, the Galvanic Stimulators apply direct current. This direct current when applied to the treated area has the ability to change blood flow. Comparable to applying ice, the area under the electrodes results in reduced circulation and therefore reduces swelling. Similarly, the negative node is comparable to applying heat and it is said to increase circulation which acts to speed healing of the tissues.
